Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes was honored this week by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) during their annual conference. Bestowed with the Civic Leader Award, Holmes accepted the honor during the Giant Steps Awards Banquet. This year, that gathering was held in Orlando, Florida.

This is hardly the first accolade for the San Antonio, Texas native. In 2002, Pop Warner honored Holmes along with teammate Tony Richardson and Chiefs President Carl Peterson as a top role model for youths. He has also been recognized as the Chiefs “Unsung Hero” by the NFL Players Association and received the Special Achievement Award for Professional Athletics by the Kansas City Sports Commission.

Past winners of the NCAS’s Civic Leader Award include former NBA All-Star Bob Love (2003), Olympic Softball Gold Medalist “Dot” Richardson (2002), NFL Pro Bowler Derrick Brooks (2001) and Chiefs legend Derrick Thomas (2000).

The NCAS is an ever-growing organization of colleges, universities and individuals. Founded in 1985 by Dr. Richard E. Lapchick, the mission of the NCAS is to create a better society by focusing on educational attainment and using the power and appeal of sport to positively affect social change.
