Priest Holmes Announces Retirement

CARL PETERSON: “Let me give you a little perspective on the events leading up to today. In late June, Priest and I talked about the possibility and opportunity for him to once again play in the National Football League for the Kansas City Chiefs. I think we all know that he had a very serious injury in 2005 in October. After consultation with our doctors and some specialists, they gave him clearance to play.
“Priest at the time with our doctors and this organization made a promise. The promise was that if any symptoms that he had previously had in 2005 – or anything close to it came up – he would be candid, forthright for our doctors and let us know.
“On Sunday in Indianapolis in happened a couple of times – symptoms, not the same, but similar. Based on that and that night in consultation with (Chiefs) Dr. Jon Browne and on Monday in further examination, Priest came to the decision.”
PRIEST HOLMES: “This year we have a lot to be thankful for. Keeping in mind that we’re one day away from Thanksgiving and everything we have to give thanks for, I sit here at the podium amongst my sons. There’s so much I’ve given and so much life I have left to experience, I am announcing my retirement from the NFL.
“The support from the Kansas City community I appreciate. It’s not so much what I’m looking forward to but at this point it’s looking back to the day that I came here after winning the championship with the Baltimore Ravens. I came to a situation where not too many people knew about me. One thing that everyone will leave today knowing is that hard work, dedication, perseverance are the things that will follow me and what many of the fans will remember about me.
